  4. Homework 40 minutes per day • Reading (80 minutes per week) • Math • The expectation for your child entering 4th grade: Fluency of multiplication and division facts 0 through 10. • Spelling words

  5. Graded Work Graded work and class work will be sent home every Friday in the front pocket of your student’s binder. Newsletters will be sent via e-mail. Please make sure we have your current e-mail. The newsletter includes: • What we covered in class (in all curriculum areas) • Anything upcoming that you should be aware of Please take out all your student’s work and review it with your child…this is yours to keep.

  9. Reading Trophies: Research based instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and text comprehension. We will incorporate the following into our reading instruction: • Whole Group • Small Group (ability based) • Partner Reading • Literature Studies • S.Q.U.I.R.T. (silent reading)

  14. Spelling Kyrene School District has adopted the Trophies spelling program to go along with the reading program. This focuses on word families and story words. Each week: • Each Monday, students will be given a Spelling Preview where they are given word family words. We will correct it together .They will take home this list of words in their home binder. Challenge words will be given to students who get 0 or 1 wrong on the preview. • Spelling homework: practice the words using Spelling City at www.spellingcity.com or by another method of your choice. • Each Friday there will be a Spelling Test!

MATHEMATICS Focus On: • Multiples and factors • Prime, composite, and square numbers • Applying multiplication and division strategies to solve problems with larger numbers • Place value understanding for multi-digit numbers • Understanding of fraction equivalence, operations, and connections to decimals • Solving problems using multiplicative comparisons • Solving problems by applying place value to multiplicative thinking • Applying understanding of fraction equivalence and operations • Exploring and analyzing the properties of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes • Investigating data analysis • Generating and analyzing patterns

Social Studies Learning Goals : • I can understand that people in Arizona have always been affected by and changed the environment. • I can understand that exploration in Arizona resulted in the founding of European colonies and changes for the local Native Americans. • I can understand and explain the events that led to Arizona becoming a state. • I can understand how and why the people of Arizona are responsible for their community, government and economy.
