Diego Rivera – Early Years • Diego was born in 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico to a wealthy family. • From the age of ten, Rivera studied art at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. • In 1907, Diego left Mexico to study art in Europe. He studied the work of many artists in France, Spain and Italy. • It wasn’t until 1921 that he returned to live in Mexico
Diego Rivera: The muralist • In 1922, Diego painted his first mural in the auditorium of the National Preparatory School in Mexico City. • He went on to paint countless murals throughout Mexico. • These murals dealt with Mexican society and often the Aztecs were a focus of his work. • He was known for his style based on large, simplified figures and bold colors.
Diego rivera – later years • In 1927, Diego left Mexico to travel and work abroad. • He created murals in cities such as Moscow, San Francisco and New York. • In 1933 he returned to Mexico to continue painting. • Diego Rivera died on November 24, 1957.
