  1. An Introduction to Aurasma

  2. Getting Started • Aurasma is an augmented reality app for iOSand Android, but is also available on a computer through use of Aurasma Studio (You have to apply for a free membership) in a web browser. • Requirements: • Android Version 2.2 or Later • iOS 4.3 or Later • A willingness to learn new things.

  3. So… How do I navigate the App?

  4. User Interface Flash On/Off User Guide Viewfinder This is used as if you were taking a picture. Point it at a trigger image (image set to launch an Aura) and enjoy! Menu Used to access advanced options, make Auras, make a channel, and more!

  5. Menu Interface Auras View public Auras Viewfinder Search Search for an Aura, channel, or user Profile View channels you follow, your Auras, and your account Create Create a trigger image, overlay, and an Aura

  6. I know all of that like the back of my hand. What’s next?

  7. Create your Account • Tap on the profile button in the bottom row and follow the on screen instructions to create your account. • If the on screen instructions do not show up, tap on the account tab of the profile page and see if you can register.

  8. Ok, I got it! How do I make my Aura?

  9. Step 1: Create an Overlay An overlay is the video, picture, or animation that will display when someone uses the viewfinder of Aurasmaon a trigger image. Tap on the plus button to begin.

  10. Creating an Overlay Cont’d. After selecting the plus button, you can open the Camera, Photo Album, or Blinkx. Tap Camera if you want to take a picture of your overlay or videotape it. If you have already created/downloaded a video or have the picture ready, tap the photo album button.

  11. Creating an Overlay Cont’d. If you selected Photo Album, the Camera Roll will launch. From here, tap the image or video you wish to use as your overlay.

  12. Creating an Overlay Cont’d. Once you have selected the video or picture to use for your overlay, it will give you a preview. Tap choose and wait for the file to upload/compress. Afterwards, a message should pop up asking you if you want to create an Aura with the overlay. Tap the OK button.

  13. Creating the Aura (Trigger Image) After selecting OK, you will be prompted to capture your trigger image. A trigger image is the image that will bring up your overlay when someone views it in the viewfinder of Aurasma. Position the image you wish to use so that it is in the box, ensure the quality indicator dot is in the green area, and tap the camera icon to take the picture.

  14. Creating an Aura (Publishing) Once your trigger image has been captured, you are one step away from finishing the Aura. Name your Aura on this screen and tap add to a channel under the public tab. If you do not have a channel, click on the plus icon that has appeared and create one. Once you have done that and clicked on the channel, tap finish.

  15. You’ve done it! Your Aura is complete and should now be public so other people can see it.

  16. Some Tips • It is easier to use one device to create your four Auras because one person cannot add their Aura to another person’s channel. • Check to make sure everything works before your presentation. • You should have your trigger images online. A collage is a nice way to display them all. I recommend Pic Collage for this.

  17. Youtube Video Downloading • You can get an extension for Chrome and Firefox that will put a button underneath the Youtube video allowing you to download it. I recommend Chrome Youtube Downloader and Easy Youtube Downloader. • You can also use http://keepvid.com to paste the Youtube video URL and download it. (Note: This generally takes longer and the quality sometimes suffers.)

  18. Adding Quotes • You can import your downloaded video into iMovie or Windows Movie Maker and add a quote at the start of the clip before the clip actually begins to play. • Be sure to use the same font and background for your quotes across all of your team’s videos.

  19. Good Luck!
