  6. On the back of the poem… Reflect on the poem itself. Note your own gut reaction -- how did it make you feel? Does this story sound familiar? Have you seen/heard of a similar experience (yourself, friends, family, news, media…)?

  7. Read the poem silently and annotate

  8. Logos, Ethos, Pathos • Logos • What is the major assertion that the author makes in the poem? Write it in the margin of the poem. • Highlight the support the author provides for these assertions, and note them on your chart. • Ethos • Do you trust this author? Why or why not? Would your answer have been the same if you did not know some biography about him?
