  1. Finding the equation of a sine or cosine curve from the graph

  2. How to find each value… • a is the amplitude. (Max – Min) / 2 • b is found by 2π / Period • c is the horizontal translation of the curve. • d is the vertical translation of the curve. It is the same as the value of the principle axis; (Max + Min) / 2

  3. Example 1 Write the curve above in the form: b a c d

  4. Example 1 6 Amplitude =(Max – Min) /2 = (13 – 7) / 2 = 3 b a c d

  5. Example 1 6 b = 2π / Period = 2π / (7 – 1) = π / 3 b c d

  6. Example 1 c = horizontal translation = 1 c d

  7. Example 1 d= vertical translation = 10 d

  8. Now try these…

  9. And these…

  10. Write the curve above in the form: b a d c

  11. 10 Amplitude =(Max – Min) /2 = (9 – -1) / 2 = 5 b a d c

  12. 4 b = 2π / Period = 2π / (5 – 1) = π / 2 b d c

  13. c = horizontal translation = 1 d c

  14. d= vertical translation to the principal axis = 4 d
