  2. Geography This ecozone starts in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and it goes north along the Labrador coast to the southern end of Baffin Island. On the shores of this region are fjords, cliffs, and bald rock. They are results of coming and going glaciers during the last ice age. Cold Atlantic water comes from the Labrador Sea and continues along the western edge of the North Atlantic. In the Winter, the St. Lawrence River freezes. Sea ice is common throughout the region, but it depends on the season. Ice starts to form in November or December, and by May or June, the ice starts to clear.

  3. Climate The Northwest Atlantic Marine Ecozone stretches from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the northern coast of Quebec and the eastern coast of Baffin Island. Warm water from the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf Stream collide with cold water from the Labrador Current, which adds fresh water to the salty ocean currents. Ice is brought to a majority of this ecozonethanks to Winter. The St. Lawrence River usually freezes and icebergs form in northern areas.

  4. Habitat Humans – Many people in this region live in New Brunswick, specifically Moncton and Saint John. Animals – The marine animals live in rivers and or beside the ocean. Rocky cliffs provide habitat for seabirds.

  5. Resources Plants – Algae grow in the north. Kelp, phytoplankton, and seaweed grow in the south. Animals – Whale blubber, seal blubber, and tonnes of fish.

Fishing is the major activity in this ecozone. This place is for people who enjoy living in cold temperatures. The temperature in this ecozone varies from -38°C to 36°C depending on the season.
