Value Stream Mapping What it is:Process to map current conditions and desired future state How it applies to WIRED:Focus on creating high performance WorkSource Centers Why it is important: • Identifies best practices • Supports integration of services at the Centers and a regional approach to service delivery

  17. Workforce Audit What it is:Analysis of projected workforce supply / demand and relevant training capacities Why it is important: • Identifies training gaps • Supports regional talent development STATUS: RFPs to be issued by early next quarter

  18. Global Context Assessment What it is: Identifies the region’s competitive strengths and weaknesses compared to peer regions Why it is important: Informs planning for regional workforce and economic development STATUS: RFPs to be issued by early next quarter

Career-Related LearningExperiences (BizConnect) What it is: Systemizes the process to connect students with business Why it is important: • Increases regional capacity to deliver quality Career-related learning experiences (CRLEs) for students • Supports the Oregon graduation requirement for CRLEs

  22. Career-Related LearningExperiences (BizConnect) STATUS: • Coordinators in place throughout the region • Pilot schools engaged • Chambers of Commerce engaged

  23. High Tech U What it is: 3-day hands-on experience at partner manufacturing and college sites Why it is important: • Example of a high quality CRLE • Engages students in high tech careers, science and math education

  24. High Tech U STATUS: • Working with SEMI Foundation • First of two programs scheduled to begin November 2008

  25. Regional Work Readiness Assessment What it is: A system to assess and certify work-readiness of job candidates. WIRED work will complement the initial assessment being implemented statewide by OED and CCWD at WorkSource centers Why it is important: • Increased employer satisfaction with referred candidates • Increased job retention

  26. Regional Work Readiness Assessment STATUS: • Oregon Employment Division and CCWD have completed initial work • WIRED to proceed with planning and procurement • WorkSource staff training a primary component of implementation

WIRED Strategies & Deliverables • Alignment of Curriculum for Targeted Sectors What it is: Occupational profiling to develop/enhance curriculum that is responsive to needs of regional advanced manufacturers Why it is important: • Builds career pathways to meet current and future workforce needs • Links pathway developments in Oregon and Washington

  28. Alignment of Curriculum for Targeted Sectors STATUS: • College staff hired and trained • Five occupational profiles completed • Participation of Washington colleges (Clark and Lower Columbia College) initiated

  29. WIRED Strategies & Deliverables • Targeted Training Investments • Establish regional training priorities • New workers and incumbent workers • Target advanced manufacturing • $858,000 for years 2 & 3 of the WIRED grant STATUS: Funding decisions anticipated in early 2009
