The EGEE project • Create a European-wide Grid production quality infrastructure for multiplesciences • Profit from current and planned national and regional Grid programmes, building on • theresults of existing projectssuch as DataGrid (EDG), LCG and others • EU Research Networkand industrial Grid developers • Support Grid computing needs common to the different communities • integratethe computing infrastructures and agree oncommon access policies • Exploit International connections (US) • 70 leading institutions in 27 countries(including Russia and US)

ARDA • ARDA is an LCG project • main activity is to enable LHC analysis on the grid • ARDA is contributing to EGEE NA4 • uses the entire CERN NA4-HEP resource • Work is based on last years experience/components • Grid projects (LCG, VDT, EDG …) • Experiments tools (Alien, Dirac, GAE, Octopus, Ganga, Dial,…) • Interface with the new EGEE middleware (gLite) • Key player in the evolution from LCG2 to the EGEE infrastructure • Verify the components in an analysis environments

  5. ARDA & HEP experiments ARDA is an LCG project whose main task is to enable LHC analysis on the GRID CMS Cobra,Orca, OCTOPUS… Alice ROOT,AliRoot, Proof… Atlas Dial,Ganga, Athena, Don Quijote LHCb Ganga,Dirac, Gaudi, DaVinci… ARDA LCG2 EGEE middleware (gLite)

Future EGEE Middleware - gLite LCG-1 LCG-2 gLite-1 gLite-2 Globus 2 based Web services based • Intended to replace LCG-2 • Starts with existing components • Aims to address LCG-2 shortcoming and advanced needs from applications (in particular feedback from DCs) • Prototyping short development cycles for fast user feedback • Initial web-services based prototypes being tested

Basic Principles • Lightweight (existing) services • Easily and quickly deployable • Use existing services where possible asbasis for re-engineering – be pragmatic • Interoperability • Allow for multiple implementations • Portable • Being built on Scientific Linux and Windows • Co-existence with deployed infrastructure • Reduce requirements on participating sites • Flexible service deployment • Multiple services running on the same physical machine (if possible) • Co-existence with LCG-2 and OSG (US) are essential for the EGEE Grid service
