Pre RA Procurement Status • LUSI baseline utilizes a tailored approach with long lead procurement approvals and XPP Early Science Instrument Procurement Approval • XPP Goniometer and Detector Positioner • CXI 1 micron Mirror System • XCS Diffractometer, Detector Positioner and Large Offset Mono • At CD-2, LUSI only had funds to expedite: • XPP Goniometer/Detector Positioner and CXI 1 micron Mirror System (Advanced procurement approval received for these on December 19, 2008) • Other project activities were moved out to fit CD-2 funding profile

RA Procurement Status RA funds allowed: Advancement of engineering effort for all instruments Advancement of XPP Early Science Procurement Approval to March 12, 2009 Advancement of engineering for the XCS Diffractometer, Detector Positioner and Large Offset Monochromator (Advanced procurement approval for these items received June 15, 2009) Advancement of procurement plans for the CXI 0.1 micron mirror system (Added as an option to the 1 micron mirror system contract which would not have been feasible without RA early funds – Option is only valid until August 31) Placement of one-half of the planned requisitions for the XPP instrument

Advance Procurement Status XPP Goniometer Award – March 8, 2009 ($427.5K) Est Delivery April, 2010 XPP Robot Detector Positioner Award – March 31, 2009 ($74.8K) - Delivered June 22, 2009 Purchase Order for the CXI 1 micron Mirror System Placed July 2, 2009 Advance Procurements for the XCS Diffractometer, XCS Large Angle Detector Mover and Large Offset Monochromator approved by DOE-SSO June 15, 2009 Diffractometer RFP issued June 26 Includes delivery incentives for delivery < 14 months Large Angle Detector Mover vendor visits underway Monochromator Fed Biz Ops

  7. Other Major Procurements • All LUSI slits awarded June 19, 2009 ($874.2K) – RA enabled • Be Lenses RFQ issued June 18, 2009 • Started procurement process for: • CXI in-vacuum piezo stages – RA – Foreign • XPP laser equipment • CXI 0.1 micron Mirror System • Need CD-3 to complete these

Procurement Interface • LUSI and SLAC Procurement have been refining the standard LCLS procurement process and weekly meeting format to be more effective • LUSI-specific buyers attend • Work in conjunction with other instruments (Lessons Learned) • AMO, SXR, MEC • SLAC Procurement has been hiring new staff to handle the increased RA procurement workload (Two new senior buyers – two open HR requisitions) • DOE – SSO can now approve $1M for non-ARRA, non-foreign procurements • Working on raising the other limits • All RA procurements to site office requirement is expected to be revised soon • Two day turn-around is the norm

RA Procurements • RA Procurements<$25K • 11 procurements placed • Average time from requisition assignment to PO is about 3 weeks • 75% placed in one week (SLAC procurement goal is 100% placed in less than one week) • RA Procurements>$25K • Five requisitions in the system • No history with ARRA Procurements >$25K yet • Average of all LUSI non-RA procurements for FY09 • PR to PO duration is 18 days • Average of all LUSI RA procurements for FY09 • PR to PO duration is 21 days

  13. In Conclusion • XPP Instrument is progressing nicely since early fabrication approval in March, 2009 • Much progress has been made in improving procurement efficiency • LUSI is ready for CD-3
