  2. Aesop – Marimekko Sauna Duet

  3. Our first collaboration with Finnish brand Marimekko has resulted in a Sauna Duet that unites our expertise in skin and body care formulations with Marimekko’s textile design excellence. The Duet speaks of high performance body care and a distinctive design aesthetic. Aesop – Marimekko Sauna Duet

  4. Aesop Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987 with a quest to create a range of superlative products for the skin, hair and body. We are committed to using both plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients of the highest quality and proven efficacy – particularly those with the greatest anti-oxidant properties.  Aesop values all human endeavours undertaken with intellectual rigour, vision, and a nod to the whimsical. We make every product with the same attention to detail that we believe should be applied to life at large, taking into consideration the climate and environment in which you live and work. We advocate the use of our products as part of a balanced life that includes a healthy diet, sensible exercise, a moderate intake of red wine, and a regular dose of stimulating literature. Our products are available online and in more than sixty signature stores internationally across many major cities, including Paris, Tokyo and New York, as well as Aesop counters in some of the world’s finest department stores. 5. An Aesop Approach Healthy skin is not about magic or advertising fluff. A combination of the correct products, a balanced diet and minimal environmental abuse all play a part. At Aesop, we don’t believe in propagating misconceptions about ‘magic anti-ageing creams’ – when used in conjunction with sunscreens and incorporated into a healthy lifestyle, anti-oxidants in the form of topically applied vitamins have a well-documented positive effect on all skin types. Our skin care preparations are formulated with premium anti-oxidants, active botanicals and scientifically validated man-made ingredients such as Vitamin C, to deliver exceptional results. No animal ingredients, colour additives or synthetic fragrances are used in any Aesop product. Synthetic preservatives are kept to a bare minimum and are complemented with botanical alternatives. Our approach to selling is one of conversation and engagement. We seek to educate the client and give honest advice based on questioning and listening. These are powerful tools that can be used to help us determine a suitable prescription in a retail environment. Our prescriptions are based on the season, customer habits and environments, current skin condition and desired skin feel. At Aesop we never oversell, or make false promises or claims. We let our products speak for themselves by applying products to the hands of all that come into contact with Aesop. The sinks and basins in our carefully designed stores and counters are not only pleasing on the eye but are fully functional and integral to the way we demonstrate product. We have a duty to demystify what is behind the amber glass. When we speak about products we focus on tangible benefits, functions and actions of products, rather than speaking of aroma or using other clichéd retail or cosmetic jargon. The Aesop range is unisex. We focus on the condition of the skin or hair as it is presented to us, rather than age, gender or rigid skin ‘types’. All ingredients included in an Aesop formulation have a tangible benefit to the skin, hair, body, or are included to support the integrity of the formulation itself. Aesop – Marimekko Sauna Duet

  8. Aesop Marimekko collaboration This is Aesop’s first collaboration with iconic Finnish brand Marimekko. Established in 1951 by garment maker ArmiRatia, Marimekko rose to prominence in the 1960s with their bold and colourful textiles including the classic prints Jokapoikaand Unikko. Today Marimekko are well regarded for their design excellence and have concept stores throughout Europe, Asia and the US. Flagship stores have recently opened in both Melbourne and Sydney. The relationship for this collaboration began in mid-2011 with the brief for a product relevant to both companies and distinctively Nordic in spirit. The co-branded end result has been inspired by Scandinavian sauna culture. Aesop – Marimekko Sauna Duet

  9. Product Specifics The key difference between these products and our existing scrub / balm formulations is their choice of essential oils which lend antiseptic and hydrating properties and a distinguishing Nordic aroma. The fragrance of both products is characteristically balsamic, camphorous and medicinal, imparted largely by the Fir and Pine oils they contain. The aromatic low-foaming gel base of Sauna Body Scrub is infused with exfoliating Pumice and Bamboo particles to remove dirt, grime and dead surface skin cells during the sauna or shower experience. Sauna Body Balm contains a combination of humectant and emollient ingredients chosen to provide exceptional hydration for even the harshest of environments. The balm has a tangibly heavier consistency and a matte after-feel that sets it apart from other Aesop body balms. As a nod to Finnish sauna culture, Sauna Body Scrub and Balm have been designed to complement the steam cleansing ritual with the deep cleansing and hydrating properties that each offers. Both products are equally suited to normal shower / bath use. Both formulations can be used as often as desired on all skin types. Aesop – Marimekko Sauna Duet

  14. Finnish Sauna Culture • Since the beginning of time bathing has been ritualised, has become an art form - where the spirit and body are purified, to maintain • good health by eliminating toxins through sweating. The Roman, Greek, and Egyptian baths were known as temples of beauty - • many therapies were developed to either heal or beautify – using cleansing sands, hot water, vapor baths, cooling pools, • aromatic oil massages. Below are thought to be the benefits of using a sauna regularly: • Relieves stress • Relaxes muscles and soothes aches and pains in muscles and joints • Flushes toxins • Cleanses skin • Induces a deeper sleep • Recreational and social benefits • Improves cardiovascular performance • Burns calories • Fight illness • Feels good • ‘One should behave in the sauna the way one behaves in church.” An old Finnish proverb • Using the sauna • Pre-sauna – nothing • Mid-sauna – sometimes in mid-summer birch twigs are used to stimulate the circulation • - take breaks to dip in the water / roll in the snow • Post-sauna – Loofah / scrub or soap, followed by moisturiser • Finns typically use the sauna on Saturday nights, and then often a couple of times • throughout the week.
