  1. Surface Features of the Earth By: Malorie Little All fun facts are in GREEN!!!

  2. Deposition Deposition can cause sand dunes, DELTAS, and meanders. The dropping or depositing of sand. Many types of deposition are found along the course of a river. *Fun fact: You can remember what deposition is by DD ( dropping= deposit)*

  3. WIW!!! Erosion is caused by water, ice, and wind. If you don’t know, erosion is the wearing down of earth’s surface. *Fun fact: You can remember the causes of erosion by WIW!!!*

  4. Soil When weathered rock and organic matter are mixed together they form soil. There are 3 layers of soil, Topsoil, Subsoil, and Bedrock.

  5. Dams A way to protect you from floods. Keeps water in.

  6. Levees Also a way to protect you from a flood. Keeps water FROM coming in.

  7. When water freezes, it expands. *Fun fact: Don’t forget the contracting. When you put a glass bottle filled with water in the freezer it will break because the water expanded and broke the bottle*

  8. Mountains are formed when rock layers are pushed up. *Fun fact: Everest mountain is the tallest mountain on earth.*

  9. Seismograph Seismographs are a tool used by SEISMOLOGISTS ( people who study earthquakes) to see the SEISMOGRAM ( record of how strong earthquake is)

  10. Converging and Diverging These cause earthquakes when they are slid against each other, bumped against each other, or pushed against each other. They look like this 

  11. Volcanoes A volcano is formed when gas and hot melted rock, called magma, escape through a crack in the crust. It caused the Hawaiian islands to form. It also caused the islands of Japan to form.

  12. A glacier is a mass of snow and ice in motion.
