  2. “Apathy” • Apathy may be a problem that we are struggling with. • “Apathy” is synonymous with… • “Lack of concern” • “Lack of interest” • “Laziness” • “Boredom” • Apathetic attitudes may lead us toward being idle, which is NOT a good thing (1 Timothy 5:11-15)

  3. Potential Contributors to Apathy • Gluttony (Intemperance) • (Proverbs 25:16, 27) There are limits to the amount of “good things” we handle before it becomes harmful to us. • Constant pleasure-seeking can take our eye off of the work that needs to be done. (Ezekiel 16:49-50, Amos 6:3-7) • Covetousness brings sorrow (1Timothy 6:10)

Potential Contributors to Apathy • Under-exertion • Proverbs 12:27 “The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession.” • Proverbs 19:15 “ Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.” • Proverbs 19:24 “A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.” • Proverbs 26:14 “As a door turns on its hinges, So does the lazy man on his bed.” • 2 Thessalonians 3:11 “For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.”

Solutions to Apathy • Learn to be content, Luke 12:15 • Proverbs 15:16 “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure with trouble.” • Proverbs 15:17 “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred.” • Proverbs 16:8 “Better is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice.” • Godliness with contentment is a large gain. (1 Timothy 6:6-10) • Are you content with your lot in life? (Philippians 4:11-13)

Solutions to Apathy • Apply a diligent approach to life! • Mark 7:21-22, Sins come from our heart – our own attitudes. • Determine not to be apathetic!!! • Consider passages such as these, Romans 12:9-13, Hebrews 6:10-12, Colossians 3:23-25! • Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”

Solutions to Apathy • Actively seek spiritual growth. • 2 Peter 1:5-11, Improving yourself and improving your knowledge will ensure that you do not grow indifferent! • 2Peter 3:18 “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

Be Someone New!! • No longer live for yourself, but for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14-17) • Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, butbe transformedby therenewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” • John 15:8 “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
