  2. Allow secondary school pupils to spend between 3 and 10 months in a host school and a host family abroad. Offer European learning experiences to pupils, to develop their understanding of the diversity of European cultures and languages and to help them acquire competences necessary for their personal development. Launched in the 2011 Call (published in September 2010) Pupil mobilities starting in the school year 2011/2012 17 participating countries (to send and host pupils): AT, BE, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, IT, LI, LV, LU, PL, SI, SK, NO, ES, SE Individual Pupil MobilitySecond year of introductory phase 2011/2012

Coordinated by the European Federation for Intercultural Learning (EFIL), with ~300 pupils from 10 countries Feedback from teachers: Schools need information on the curricula and grading systems in the partner countries Feedback from pupils: There should be a learning agreement between the sending and host school Need for flexible timetable in the beginning in order to allow time for language learning Pilot project 2006-2008Preparation of the new pupil mobility action

  7. Who can apply? Schools located in the eligible countries Schools in the same Comenius partnership How to apply? Applications submitted by the sending school to its NA by 1 December 2010 (endorsed and signed by host school/s) Individual Pupil MobilityRules for applying

Pupils Aged at least 14 enrolled full-time in an eligible school (Pupils are selected by the sending school) Stay in host families selected by the host schools or boarding schools (if they take responsibilities as defined for the host family) Provide all necessary information which might be relevant for a long stay abroad Prepare and sign: the learning agreement together with the sending and the host school the pupil application form the parental/guardian consent form together with the parents/guardians Prepare for the stay abroad and takes part in compulsory training sessions organised by the sending and the host NA Get to know possible risks and emergency procedures Write a final report Individual Pupil MobilityBasic principles

Schools Nominate a contact teacher/mentor and support their work Sending school selects the pupil/s and the host school selects host families; they both establish an efficient monitoring to ensure the safety of the pupil Establish a learning agreement between the sending and the host school with the pupil’s participation Both schools agree on procedures in the event of crisis or emergency and a set of clear rules of conduct for the pupil Encourage the reciprocity of pupil mobilities between schools and host families Exchange preferably only small groups of pupils to facilitate integration Sending school organises pupil’s travel in agreement with the host school and makes sure that the pupil is enrolled in the Comenius Group Insurance Plan Need to ensure safety of minors: Pupils, parents & host families sign a charter/consent form with a clear definition of their responsibilities School need to respect their roles and responsibilities as stated in the Guide to Comenius Individual Pupil Mobility Take part in compulsory training sessions organised by the sending and the host NA Individual Pupil MobilityBasic principles

All actors should consult the Guide which helps them in implementing the action and ensure the safety of the pupils involved The Guide: Specifies roles and responsibilities, deadlines and gives guidance Provides the necessary templates and forms to be used by participants The translated Guide is/will be available at the National Agency (NA) website Guide to Comenius Individual PupilMobility

Deadlines NA of the sending school informs –> sending school & NA of the hosting school of the results of the selection (mid-February 2010) Sending school selects pupils(end of March 2010) Host school selects host families (end of March 2010) Sending school fills in the pre-grant agreement with finalised budget and sends it to the NA Grant agreements sent to sending school in May/June 13

Grants for participating pupil (monthly allowance and return ticket) transferred via the sending school Grants for sending and host school (lumpsum) for the organisation of the mobility Grant for linguistic preparation of the pupil provided to the sending school (lumpsum) What does the funding for schools cover?

Sending school is responsible for managing and distributing the funds to: Pupil: monthly allowance (lump-sum) transferred to the pupil or to the parents (to transfer to the pupil) Host school: lump-sum paid after having selected the host family, appointed contact teacher/mentor, signed the learning agreement (on the basis of a document signed by the host school) Management of the grant by the sending school

  16. Travel logistics Arrangements should be taken by schools to ensure that pupils do not travel alone from/to the airport to/from the home of the host family Domestic travel for the accompanying person in host country may be reimbursed by the host school (from lump-sum) Pupils are recommended not to go home for holidays Insurance European group insurance to ensure same basic cover during the mobility Insurance Guide and Website (with on-line enrollment) available Travel logistics & insurance
