  3. Bringing in Food and Water • The American Red Cross and other volunteer agencies will provide you with food, water and clothing. Listen to your radio or watch local media for the location of the nearest volunteer agency facility. • There are also sources of water in your home that you may have not thought of. For example, your hot water heater is an excellent source of water. Turn off the power that heats your tank and let it cool. When you want water, place a container underneath & open the drain valve on the bottom of the tank.

  4. Evacuation After the Earthquake • Evacuation of all people to near neighborhoods. Even if they are not injured. • There might be an aftershock after all major earthquake. • Ask people for help and travel in groups.

  5. Temporary Housing • There are places where you can call for temporary housing if your home is damaged or destroyed. • FEMA: 1 – 800 - 621-3662 • This number will allow you to apply for assistance where the operator will help you process your application.

  6. Medical Equipment & Supplies Local organizations provide health and medical equipment and supplies, including pharmaceuticals, biologic products, and blood and blood products, in support of  DMAT operations and for restocking health and medical care facilities in an area affected by a major disaster such as an earthquake.
