What is CTE? • SFUSD’s CTE department partners with businesses, educators and the community to help students earn about career fields in growing industry sectors based on labor market needs. It also creates pathways to higher education and career options. • High school teacher teams reinforce CTE standards throughout the core curriculum to create a multidimensional approach to college and career preparation. • Students are in a cohort.
Some fun facts… • Academies have a 90% national graduation rate (nation avg. = 67%, urban avg. = 50%) • 80% of academy students go on to post-secondary education; almost half were first in their families to do so
More fun facts… • Academy students are twice as likely to take college-level courses in high school • Academy students are 60% less likely to require remedial college coursework • Academy students are 52% more likely to graduate from college in 4 years
Partnerships with Community Activities of Advisory Boards Provide summer internship Guest speakers / Field Trips Host job shadowing Act as Mentors Engage in fundraising Provide Externships for teachers Assist teaches with industry specific curriculum Members of corporate business, non-profit agencies, foundations and institutions of higher learning volunteer to help students gain real world work experiences. Our Advisory Boards meet monthly to find ways to enrich classroom curriculum
Internships The paid summer internship program provides a work-based learning experience for high school students within academies. 270 students placed this summer!!
