  6. Where were staying! El San Juan Hotel and Casino • Booked two rooms for $250.00 a night. • We will be eating a complimentary breakfast/buffet every morning before our daily activities.

  7. History History • San Juan is known as “La Ciudad Armurallada” which means the walled city. • San Juan was founded in 1521. In 1508 Juan Ponce de León founded the original settlement, Caparra, now known as Pueblo Viejo, behind the almost land-locked harbor just to the west of the present metropolitan area. • San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico it is located in the North eastern regions of Karsts zone. • The language spoken In San Juan is Spanish.

Why? • We wanted to celebrate Ano Nuevo which is there New Years. • Its celebrated with fireworks displays. • Before the party begins the whole family spends time cleaning the house, yard, cars, and even sweeping the street. • Its believed that if your property is cleaned before the New Year comes, it will stay that way for the rest of the year. • They eat 12 grapes at midnight, which is a custom from Spain, its said to bring prosperity to those who do it. • Another one is to throw a bucket of water out into the street to rid the home of all the bad things and prepare it for the arrival of all the good things.

Places to see • Isla Verde is a beach in San Juan you can swim, surf, and simply relax. • Old San Juan, wander the enchanting streets of the old town, which are crammed with elegant colonial architecture, museums, and the best restaurants on the island. • La Fortaleza the palatial governor residence. • Old San Juan includes more than 400 carefully restored 16th- and 17th-century Spanish colonial buildings. • More tourists visit San Juan each year than any other spot in the Caribbean. • Plaza de San José is a meeting place for young and old. At its center stands the bronze statue of Ponce de León, made from a British cannons captured in during Sir Ralph Abercromby's attack 1797.

How we’ll be getting around • Car rentals are open 24 hours a day, all of them run free shuttles from the terminal to their car locations. • Getting a Taxi is the most convenient way to get in the city. To get the Taxi tickets look for orange booths. • The only city bus that’s any use is the C45 it runs Mon-Sat every 30 minutes, the last bus is at 5:55 P.M.

  13. Activities that are educational • San Juan Safaris Whale Watching-See wild orca whales. Three hour tours. • San Juan Vineyards- is the only commercial vineyard and winery on the island. Started in 1996, had first harvest October 2000. They also have a great gift shop. • San Juan Island Historical Museum-Learn all about the British and the Americans. • Vintage Air Tours-operates a beautiful Great Lakes biplane out of Friday Harbor on various kinds of flights from scenic to simple biplane rides. • Arctic Raven Gallery- art museum

  14. Were going to visit a elementary school. • San Juan elementary school. • Mondays,  Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays  7:45 a.m. – 2:05 p.m. • Tuesdays 7:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. • We will be visiting their Elementary school and teaching them about our culture.
