Why or why not? • Review the idea of imagery: • What are the five things to which imagery appeals? • Review your worksheets on imagery.

  3. Trifles • What is a trifle? How does it apply to the play? Who in the story is interested in trifles? • What evidence is gathered in the story by the men? By the women? Why is it different? • If Mrs. Wright did commit the murder, what was the motive for the murder? Why? • What is this play trying to say about the roles of men and women?

The Lottery • Know the vocabulary we studied in class. • What is a ritual? • What were the steps in the lottery ritual? • Why did the village use the lottery? • What was Tessie in the story? • How would the story have changed if little Davy would have won the lottery? • Why do you think Shirley Jackson had Tessie win the lottery? What was she doing in the story that no one else was doing?
