  1. Run-ons and Fragments Bellringers

  2. Run-ons and Fragments RECORD THE FOLLOWING DEFINITIONS IN YOUR BELLRINGER NOTEBOOK. • Run-on: an ungrammatical sentence in which two or more independent clauses are conjoined without a conjunction • Fragment:phrase or clause written as a sentence but lacking an element, such as a subject or verb that would enable it to function as an independent sentence.

  3. Bellringer INSTRUCTIONS: The following sentences contain run-on and fragment errors. Write each sentence as it appears. Find the errors and correct the sentences. A small sailboat can be operated by one sailor and writing is also a solo job. Both sailing and writing can be lonely both can also be thrilling. Some people love to be alone but most people prefer to be with others.

  4. Bellringer INSTRUCTIONS: The following passage contains multiple fragments. Write the corrected passage in your journal. When I have to read an essay of mine out loud in class. A nervous, embarrassed feeling and my mouth goes dry. Practicing the presentation before I have to stand up and really do it. That helps. Not a perfect cure, however.

  5. Bellringer INSTRUCTIONS: The following passage contains run-on and fragment errors. Write the passage as it appears and then make corrections. My favorite song is an old one, it’s “Help Me, Rhonda” the Beach Boys sang it. I imagine a sad boy, he is talking to a cheerful girl, he thinks she is very attractive.

  6. Run-ons and Fragments Bellringer Quiz See Ms. Mileham to make up the quiz.
