  1. "When the going gets tough; the tough get going." Joseph P Kennedy Sr

  2. "When the giving gets tough, the godly keep giving."

  3. The economic times are tough, giving is tough, but the godly keep giving. II Corinthians 8:1-5

  4. God gives the ability to give. • Poverty doesn't preclude generosity. • Christians can give more than they think. • Giving is voluntary and a privilege. • God's will is that we give first to the Lord, then to His work.

  5. 1. God gives the ability to give. "And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches."

  6. "He Giveth More Grace“by Annie J. Flint His love has no limits, His grace has no measure, His power no boundary known unto men; For out of His infinite riches in Jesus He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

  7. 2. Poverty doesn't preclude generosity. "Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity."

  8. Paul noted that the Macedonian poverty "welled up." The picture that comes to mind is that of an artesian well.

  9. 3. Christians can give more than they think. "They gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability."

  10. "He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, the wealth in every mine; He owns the rivers and the rocks and rills, the sun and stars that shine. Wonderful riches, more than tongue can tell - He is my Father so they're mine as well; He owns the cattle on a thousand hills - I know that He will care for me."

  11. When there is a godly desire to give, there are resources that are made available to us that are beyond our own means.

  12. 4. Giving is voluntary and a privilege. "Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints."

  13. "I want your money."

  14. 5. God's will is that we give first to the Lord, then to His work. "They gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will."

  15. While it may be all right to say, "God wants your money." It is better to say, "The Lord wants you."

  16. God gives the ability to give. • Poverty doesn't preclude generosity. • Christians can give more than they think. • Giving is voluntary and a privilege. • God's will is that we give first to the Lord, then to His work.

  17. "When the giving gets tough, the godly keep giving."
