What do we do?? • Bring “real-life” STEM experience to students. • Support School activities such as Science & Engineering Clubs. • Help with STEM competitions, events & awards. • Assist in extra-curricula STEM experiences. • Help to arrange work-based placements. • Act as “role-model”; work as Mentor. • See Case Studies at www.stemnet.org.uk

Why is this necessary?? • Fewer students are choosing STEM subjects. • Students find difficulty in relating STEM teaching to the real world of work. • Private Sector Design/Manufacturing is a UK business development priority. • STEM Industries have ageing workforce. • STEMNET needs Industry support

  4. Who are we?? • Usually Professional STEM background. • Volunteers & free to Schools. • CRB checked • Completed “Induction Course” • Desirable Personal Characteristics – enthusiastic, committed, inspirational, good communication skills, interested in developing the STEM Business Sector, sufficiently confident in the Classroom.

  5. Why do we do it?? • Interest & satisfaction in STEM education. • Sense of achievement. • Fresh perspective on day-to-day activities. • Career development. • Contribute towards Chartered Status. • Challenge stereotypes! Help make a difference! • Have fun, whilst inspiring the next generation!

  6. How do I become one?? • REGISTRATION – User-friendly on-line Registration Form. • Complete Disclosure Form for CRB check. • Attend short “Induction Training” Course, which includes “how to start?” and “what to do?” guidance. • Contact Angela Carpenter, STEMnet Brokerage Co-ordinator, Room 01.06 ENV, UEA, Norwich, NR4 7TJ. (01603 591659, angela.carpenter@uea.ac.uk). • Brokerage will facilitate School/Industry links.

  7. How are we supported?? • School links critical. • STEMnet Brokerage provides STEMnet link. • STEMnetworking site provides a forum for all aspects of STEMnet & STEM Ambassador activities. • After registering on STEMnetworking site, Activity & Feedback Records can be completed & accessed, providing a broad data-base of information useful to Ambassadors. • Don’t worry – resources are infinite!!!!
