  3. Mission Statement OSU Chapter Mission Statement: To be the premier Industrial Engineering student organization committed to developing professional, academic, and social networks that openly educates and promotes the Industrial Engineering profession to all students.

Innovative Structure Immediate Past President Faculty Advisor (Dr. Higle) Regional Conference Planning Committee – Hosted by OSU in 2012. -Plant Tour Coordinator -Chapter Development Chair *Rotation Reps. (5) *Grad. Student Rep. -Director of Digital Operations -Newsletter Editor *External Ambassadors -Fundraising Chair -E-Council Reps. (3) *= Appointed Position

  5. Structure: Experience Leadership • Strength Finder 2.0 • VP’s Lead Committees with Direct Reports • Have Bi-weekly meetings • Exec. Committee meets on opposite weeks • Interact with Professionals

  6. Role: Umbrella Organization External Ambassadors *Support and Collaborate: -Be sure events don’t conflict with other groups events. ASQ HFES INFORMS SWE APM Support entire ISE department! TEXNIKOI WIE

Operation’s Goal: Get Everyone a Job • Outside Speakers and Plant Tours • Get to be selective • Prefer hiring managers and engineers who will accept resumes • Not generic H.R. info sessions. • Always free Pizza and Soda, sponsored by companies. • Do not have to be a member to attend. *OSU alumni in the company are encouraged to attend as well.

  8. Attend / Host a Regional Conference • Hosting 2012 Regional Conference • To Students and Companies: • How could you say no? • Create a Buzz • Think Big • Create Value • Drive down cost • Great Lakes Regional Conference - 2011 • Sent 34 students to Ohio U.

Participate in Annual Conference • 16 students in 2011 • 20 students in 2012 • Arena Competition • Finalists in Miami • One Team in Cancun • Two Teams in Reno • Paper Competitions • Construction Division: one team competed in Cancun and Reno; • Solution Track: One student gave Presentation in Cancun • Sustainability: one student Paper and Presentation in Reno • Networking: Stack of Business Cards • Come home with motivation and excitement • Have Fun!!

Fundraising • Meeting the Goal: Leaving behind twice as much money while increasing # of students sent to conferences. • Generous Alumni Donations • College of Engineering: E – Council • ISE Department Contributions • High Dollar • Happy Hours • Mongolian BBQ – Guest Griller by Professor • Stadium Cleanups • Golf Player Cards • Low Effort • Cold stone Creamery • 5 Guys Burgers and Fries • Street Cleanups • T – Shirt sales

  11. Social Events • Intramural Sports • Sand Volleyball • Softball • Basketball • Flag Football • Happy Hours • Facilitate connections within the ISE department • Able to use as a fundraiser • Faculty in attendance • Leverage large crowd to decrease costs • $10 all inclusive for students

  13. Results: Member Recruitment – 100+ members • Member : Officer Ratio – Approx 5:1 • Events promote themselves! • ½ price membership in the Fall • Event with the Columbus Senior Chapter • University Involvement Fair • College of Engineering Fair

Tips – Its all about balance! • Know Your Stakeholders • Respond immediately – no matter what • Know Your Strengths • Do an officer transition meeting • Know What Motivates College Students • Get them a job, they will pay membership dues • If you have something good, give it away for free • Show your cards – don’t hide them, openly promote intentions • They like free food • Long emails will never work – tiered communication does • Offer something unique • Get officer polos – look good, be confident In 1948, IIE Chapter #1 was founded in Columbus, OH. 63 Years Later: The Excellence Continues GO BUCKS!
