Christian Doctrine 1 / Dr. Billings The Exodus from Egypt(Exodus 12:1-37; 13:17-14:31) Explain how the exodus from Egypt includes (1) a sacrifice, (2) a memorial; (3) a vigil, (4) a Passover, (5) a liberation, (6) a redemption from death A sacrifice: a lamb (spotless) is sacrificed and its blood serves as protection (on doorpost, lintels) A memorial: people of Israel are commanded to commemorate this as it happens A vigil: the Israelites keep a vigil this night of the Passover, waiting God’s saving power; ALSO: the LORD keeps vigil for them A passover: the Lord kills the first-born of Egypt, but “passes over” the Israelites (passover/ “strike a blow”) A liberation: the Lord leads the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt to freedom A redemption from death: From plague, from Pharaoh pursues and would kill the people of Israel at the Red Sea.
