SALAAM BAALAK TRUST Working for Street Children Jems Rock Your interest in Salaam Baalak Trust is a heartening reminder that India’s street children have not been forgotten. The journeys that our young adults from SBT have traversed are an inspiring tribute to the human spirit. These young men and women have worked against staggering odds to change their life stories, and we at SBT have been relentless in our pursuit to even the playing field and help each of our children build a promising future. Over the past 30 years Salaam Baalak Trust has provided support services to over 80,000 street children. In this time, over 15,000 parents were reunited with their run-away or lost children, and more than 20,000 children have lived with us, accessing our many services and finding comfort, home and a family to replace what they may have lost or left behind. It is in recognition of this work that our Chairperson, Mrs. Praveen Nair, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Central Queensland University, Australia, and the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Award, which she will receive in November. But there is still much to be done! As per the last national census, there are over 110 million children in India who don’t attend school and are potentially street children . We encounter these nameless faces through our closed glass windows at every traffic light, begging for a coin, a meal or a word of affection. Convert webpages to pdf online with PDFmyURL

  2. Many of the children who reach us are rescued from child traffickers, others are run- aways, who leave their homes to escape starvation, abuse or neglect. These children, some as young as three-years-old, leave behind everything they are familiar with in search of a better life - a safe place to sleep, a warm meal, an education, a secure place to dream… the freedom to just be a child. It is these dreams that we help realise. Our journey would not have been possible without the financial and moral support of so many of you who are part of the Salaam Baalak Trust story. The generousdonations of compassionate individuals and institutions has allowed us to make life kinder for hundreds of children, but there are millions more, lost and alone, that need our help. In our lives full of privileges, it takes little to enable those less fortunate. As we celebrate India@70, we turn to you to keep our hopes alive and give our children a fighting chance in an unfair world. Small contributions and simple gestures from you can change the fortunes of our children. Join us in our mission to feed, clothe and educate India’s street children, and allow them to recognise their potential. Donate a day’s salary, contribute in celebration of a special occasion, and take our message and story to your family and friends. Our dedicated team is there to put in the hardwork, but we need your support. I will be delighted to provide you more details about our work and to speak with you on how you can contribute to the welfare of our children. 12 views · Posted 3d ago Convert webpages to pdf online with PDFmyURL
