In January 2011, a group meeting in Ta Chai village, Sa Pa district, led by young villager Ly Lao Lo, initiated a livelihood sub-project focusing on the production of bathing herbs. With 15 households participating, they established a 200 ha plantation area for these herbs, fostering sustainable forest exploitation. The project extracted over 20 special herbal trees using traditional Dao formulas, with products gaining popularity beyond the province. By 2012, the group's annual revenue reached approximately 700 USD per household, significantly elevating local incomes and confidence.

A group meeting in January 2011: 15 households in Ta Chai village, Ta Phin commune, Sa Pa district (chaired by young villager – Ly Lao Lo) agreed to implement the livelihood sub-project on production of bathing herbs
An area of 200 ha for bathing plants in Ta Phin commune, Sa Pa district was formed, promising to sustainable forest exploitation
Group members meet regularly for progress updates and lessons learned. Project staff also supported the group on plantation skills
Bathing medication of Sa Pa is extrated more than 20 special herbal trees, blended according to traditional Dao’s formula
Bathing medicine are bottled at the Company for Business of Sa Pa Local specialities (BSLS Co.). This company signed a contract for whole-comsumption of Ta Chai group products.
Products are now quite popular not only in the province but nationwide
Annual meeting 2012: Ta Chai group annual revenue is 14-15 mil.VND/household (~700 USD/household) – an amazing amount to local people (compare to their formal annual income of 200 USD)!
Currently there are 3 bathing herbs groups in Sa Pa with 40 households. Group members have had stable income from the sub-project and improve their self-confiance by wisely and sustainably utilising forest resouces.
