2010 - 2011 Ensaar Club Calendar • Mission Statement: • A project devoted to help students develop leadership, confidence, and character through the prophetic example of showing compassion and love to Allah’s creations.
Participant Requirements: • Participants must be respectful and courteous to anyone they are working with. • Age limits vary per project between grades 3-8. • Membership varies per project. • Participants must attend a training seminar preferably with a parent before each session. • Participants must give a 5 minute presentation to their classmates after completing an Ensaar Club project to share their experiences. • Participants must turn in signed waivers and parental consent forms required.
Adviser’s Requirements: • Each event should have at least two teachers and one parent adviser for every 10 students. • Advisers must attend service hours on time and remain present until each child has been picked up. • Advisers are asked to present their project and how it correlates to the value of the month during morning assembly to encourage involvement. • Coordinators will conduct training sessions for students and fill in for advisors if they are unavailable. Coordinators are also responsible for forms, placements, and assessments.

Ensaar Club Training November: Cooperation

December: Forgiveness Cause: Feeding those in Need • Age Group: 5-8 • Advisers: • Spots Available: 5-10 • Training Info: What is Masjid Al-Ihsaan, demographics of population served, and importance of feeding the needy, why feeding others is the greatest sadaqa • Objective: Understand the importance of serving people in need, collaborate with other volunteers, • Participating Organization: Masjid Al Ihsaan (Abdullah Madyun & TahiraMadyun) • Project Details: Need 1-2 parent volunteers to drive students from MEC to Masjid Al Ihsaan. March: Honesty Cause: Environmental • Age Group: 5th-8th • Advisers: Coach Azam, Ms. Shafiuddin, & Ms. Ansari • Spots Available: 10-20 • Training Info: Ecoli Bacteria, pH testing, pollution, temperature, long shore current, advocacy, Great Lakes, ecosystems, letter writing, importance of maintaining bodies of water according to the sunnah. • Objective: learn how pollution effects the Great Lakes ecosystems, cooperate with Great Lakes Alliance to clean up the beaches and bring about change, teamwork, create awareness in the school and city for pollution and test waters for safe usage. • Participating Organization: Great Lakes Alliance, Adopt a Beach program. If they feel a change needs to be made students advocate for it through letter writing or other avenues.

April: Compassion Cause: Serving the Community • Age Group: Grades 3-8 • Advisers: Mrs. Mujtaba & Ms. Malik • Spots Available: 5-20 • Training Info: About stray cats, cat shelters, Prophet (s) teachings about cats, how to interact with cats • Objective: students will gain compassion towards animals, learn about the issues surrounding animal abuse and neglect • Participating Organization: Felines Inc. www.felinesinc.org, 6379 N. Paulina, 773.465.4132 • Project Details: Students will organize cat food drive, then visit the cat shelter to play with the cats once a week.

May: Justice Cause: Education and Advocacy (Mexican Immigration) • Age Group: Grades 5-8 (advanced reading level required) • Advisers: Sajid & Fatima Afzal, Mansoor &Ayesha Kazi • Spots Available: 20 • Training Info: study debate on immigration, watch documentaries, read articles, study maps, understand America’s interests in this conflict and how it impacts us. • Objective: students gain an understanding of debate on immigration, understand how policies are formed and changed in a democratic system, understand the plight of immigrants, relate personal family experiences • Participating Organization: IRIM, and other • Project Details: Meet guest speakers, hear first hand accounts of immigration struggles, meet activists involved in policy development, write letters to politicians advocating for policy change. Educate peers and families about Mexican immigration and how it impacts us and relates to immigration from other nations.
