  2. First Reading The Messenger of the Promise ... will soon appear Mal 3:1-4

  3. The Lord God says this: • I am going to send my messenger • To prepare a way before me • Suddenly will enter the Temple • The one you are looking for • The Angel of the Covenant

  4. Who will remain standing when he appears? • For he is • Fire in the foundry • The lye used for bleaching • He will be • As a refiner of silver • Like gold and silver will refine the children of Levi • Will make the offering to the Lord as it should be made

  5. The offering of Juda and Jerusalem will then be welcomed by the Lord as in the years of old

  6. Second Reading Like his brothers Heb 2:14-18

  7. As son • Shared the same blood and flesh, so that • By his death he could take away all the power of the devil • And set free all those who have been held in slavery by the fear of death.

  8. He took by the hand not the angels but the human race the descendance of Abraham

  9. Like his brothers and sisters in every respect to be compassionate and trustworthy high Priest

  10. Having been tested through suffering he is able to help those who are tested
