  2. Contextualization: Domestic violence is a complex phenomenon that requires a concerted and multidisciplinary intervention, assuming lately an increased visibility at the international and national levels.

Contextualization: The growing number of complaints is an importante indicator, not necessarily as a revealor of a real increase in the number of situations (many of them do not get to transalate into the formalization of the complaint), but eventually as an indicator of less difficulty of the victims to complaint, a great social awareness of this type of crime, a greater public trust in the responses of institucional support and also, a smaller social tolerance to family violence.

  4. Contextualization: The statistical Information available, both nationally and locally show that women are the main victims of domestic violence more specifically violence exercised by the partner or spouce / ex spouce. Apart from marital violence, domestic violence also includes episodes of violence occured in the family environment exerted against elderly and children, while direct victims of maltreatment of exposure to interparental violence- violenc vicariant. Are equally included in this concept dating relationships and/or ex intimate relationships.

  5. Contextualization In this context of the work developed in the municipality to promote equal opportunities for women and men was created the Woman Area Information on March 8, 2001. This area seeks to fit into a integrated and territorialized intervation in the approach to the problema of violenc in the council of Guimaraes. Constitutes a privileged mechanism of observation, monitoring and prevention of domestic violence at local level.

  7. TYPE OF SUPPORT PROVIDED: - Generic support; - Social support; - Psycological support; - Legal Support;

STRATEGIC GOALS: 1 – promoting institutional answers ( improve the articulations between institutions, create new responses and improve the existing ones) 2 – Inform, Preventing and Detect ( promote actions directed to school population, the parents and guardians, among others, as well as publicize the answers and resources); 3 – Qualify Professionals ( develop training activities for strategic public); 4 - Promoting studies and/or surveys themes about violence (do thematic studies and surveys concerning the violence).

  10. Transnational Projects: “city- Dona” project. It was a project supported by the European Commission , whose goal consisted in the development of the binomal city – parity and in the affirmation that people are happier if they live in a society where men and women have the same freedoms and the same opportunities , in other words na equal society. The partner cities of the project were Terrasa, Carpi and Guimaraes, assuming the commitment to develop activate and participatory that would be able to integrate the equalization of opportunities between men and women in all its policies and actions.

Projetos Transnacionais Project “Women in European construction – A town of commitment” With this project, the Municipality of Guimaraes, through the Area Woman Information sought to sensitize the cities of Tacaronte and Equality (Spain), Keiserslautern (Germany) and Pleven (Bulgaria) for the design of active and participatory methodologies that promote the Equalization of Opportunities between man and woman in macro perspectives ( “the city as a whole”) and micro ( “institutions of higher importance of each one of the cities per se”)

NATIONAL PROJECTS: Project “equalize/ Ave” This project promoted innovative actions with companies and local authorities in order to introduce for the elimination of inequalities between men and women in employement and their working relationships sustained culture of Equal opportunities Partners:- Municipalities of Fafe, Vila Nova de Famalicao, Santo Tirso, Trofa and Vizela; The Civil Government of Braga; Institute of Solidarity and Social Security; Commission for Equality in Labour and Employment; Clothing workers union and North Textile Confection; Commercial and Industrial Associations of Guimaraes, Fafe, Famalicao and Vizela, Sol do Ave (interlocutor entity).

  13. NATIONAL PROJECTS Project “ School in the Promotion of Gender Equality”. This project was developed by the group of schools of Belos Aires, being directed to the whole school community ( students, teachers, educational assistentes, parents / guardians. The overall aim consisted in promoting values and behaviors that contribute to the development of a Joint Society between men and women

NATIONAL PROJECTS Project “Emerge Woman” The promoting entity of this project was the Association for the Development of Local Communities (ADLC) , which approached transversally the thematic of Equal Opportunities among women of rural environment that are socially disadvantaged, highliting the importance of women`s role in today`s society;

NATIONAL PROJECTS Project “Teatro Oficina”( Oficina theatre) For its part “Teatro Oficina” project was developed by the group of schools of S.Joao de Ponte in collaboration with the Municipality of Guimaraes. Inserted on the Commeration of the 150th aniversary of the rising of the city municipality of Guimaraes. Who collaborated on performing a theater play

NATIONAL PROJECTS Project “Woman in Cinema” This project was promoted by Cineclub of Guimaraes (film society of guimaraes) adressing and reflecting the evolution of women in the art of acting, as na actress, usually remitted to more descrited roles. In fact, the evolution of cinematography (production and filmmaking) reflects with some fidelity the social and ideological conceptions associated with women`s roles throughout history.

STUDIES ELABORATED BY EIM Study “The toponomy of Guimaraes” This study sought to aware the population for the topic of Equal Opportunities, emphasizing the importance of the actions of women who assumed preponderante roles in the municipality of Guimaraes, such as Mumadona, D.Teresa, D.Urraca, Countess of Juncal, D. Mafalda, Queen Maria II, D. Oneca Mendes, among others, and have been honored with street names;

ESTUDOS ELABORADOS PELO EIM Study “ The gender policy or the policy of gender?” A study that analyzed the evolution of the percentage of women in elections in Guimaraes in the period between 1982 and 2001, noting that despite some progresso of women interested in policy, these are only 11,9% , as well as the diferente political parties still refer to places not eligable. Urge the fight of these inequalities into effective and integrated policies at a local and national levels, since women constitute half of Humanity.

ESTUDOS ELABORADOS PELO EIM Statistical Study of School Violence in the Municipality of Guimaraes This was a descriptive statistical study, whose target population were students from the 5th to 9th year of schooling EB 2.3 of the council of Guimaraes. The results suggested that the phenomenon of bullying is presente in our schools. The sexo f the agressor and the victim was predominantly male, registering a tendency forstudents´ perception of bullying as observers, followed by the students as victims and, finally, the students as agressors. The spaces of higher occurence of these behaviors were the outdoor spaces/playgrounds, corridors and stairs as well as in the vicinity of schools. The type of attacks that are more mentioned are attacks like cal ofensive names, humiliate, pushing and hiting. Students who recognize themselves as agressor have already resorted to professional help.
