  2. Policy Framework • Managing .nz domain name space is responsibility of InternetNZ • Delegated responsibility to NZOC – the .nz Oversight Committee • NZOC develop the policies and procedures for .nz • Domain Name Commission (DNC) manages this on a day-to-day basis

  3. Policy Inventory • Policies published on www.dnc.org.nz/policies • Integral part of terms and conditions of registration of .nz domain names • All registrants acknowledge that they are bound by the .nz policies during the registration process • Registrants’ responsibility to keep up with any new policies developed

Policy Inventory cont. • Overview policy gives links to all policies and brief description of their purpose • All policies labelled with version and date at which they came into effect • Older versions archived, and available to all online through policies page • Registrar Information Kit (RIK) provides all policies to anyone considering becoming a registrar.

Policy Development Process • An identified need for policy • Consultation on published policy paper • Draft policy published on website • Approval by NZOC, copied to Council • Where policy being developed is a change to an existing policy, the timetable for implementation forms part of the consultation process

  8. PDP cont. • Fast track option available • “It is possible that at times a situation occurs that requires urgent amendment or establishment of a specific policy. Should this situation arise, the NZOC may approve such a policy without any consultation. Any policy issued as a result of this will be clearly identified as an ‘Interim Policy’ and a timeframe set to finalise that policy.”
