The journey • Getting students on board • Survey (to measure progress) • Creating the environment necessary for students’ participation (washing lines, display, encouragement, key language for classroom needs, opinions)
To be successful, we need to have… Determination Self-discipline Perserverance Expectations Reassurance Positive encouragement (eg Rewards such as postcards home,verbal praise)
Conclusion Surveys –Interviews with students- Students comments All Extremely positive Evidence shows… A real preference for teacher use of Target Language Greater confidence in using French Greater enjoyment in lessons More willingness to use French Better progression in key skills of Speaking & Listening All of which is bound to impact… ….on performance at both key stages
Increased motivation…….. • Due to increased motivation, the year 10 students in the pilot group at SJNCC were keen to give up their own time to create some very imaginative and effective classroom displays to support their own use of the target language (and use of grammar).
