CATS EHV Update: January 2009 Status and Future Studies Overview

The CATS EHV met on January 6, 2009, and appointed a new chairman. The 2009 study work has been revised, with the mega-project analysis postponed until 2010. Biennial Transmission Assessment (BTA) work will be conducted this year. Notable objectives include evaluating the impact of large generation injections at Arizona 500 kV busses and determining transmission capabilities to support injections of 1000-3000 MW.   2. CATS EHV Status Update • CATS EHV met on 1/6/09 • New Chairman • 2009 study work has been revised • Mega-project analysis delayed until 2010 • Biennial Transmission Assessment (BTA) work will be performed in 2009

  3. 2009 Mega-Project Study Update • Determine impact of large generation injections at Arizona 500 kV busses • Determine transmission to support injections of 1000-3000MW • Mega-Project study coincides with • Statutory requirements of BTA • ACC-required Arizona Renewables report • NERC compliance study work • Total Transfer Capability (TTC) study work • Mega-Project Study delayed. Review study plan late 2009 to prepare for 2010 work
