In the first chapter of "The Great Gatsby," F. Scott Fitzgerald introduces us to the contrasting worlds of East and West, embodying the American Dream's allure and disillusionment. The characters of Nick, Tom, and Daisy Buchanan exemplify different facets of wealth and societal expectations, while Gatsby's mysterious hope is symbolized by the green light at Daisy's dock. As Nick grapples with his judgments of the wealthy elite, Fitzgerald delves into themes of morality, aspiration, and the complexities of human relationships.
