  1. October 7th, 2013: Warm-up • Please turn in your Unit 3 vocabulary sentences. Make sure your vocabulary word is highlighted or underlined; your subject is underlined once, and your verb is underlined twice. • Please take out your Unit 3 vocabulary word for SAT coaching. • Take out a clean sheet of paper, put a proper heading on it, and title it Compound Sentences.

  2. October 8th, 2013: Journal: Opinion about Money In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following prompt: He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money. Benjamin Franklin What do you think is the significance of this quote? What is it REALLY saying? What is your thoughts on Benjamin Franklin’s assertion? Please explain your answers. Be specific. 13 lines minimum; Write for 10 minutes.

  3. October 9th: Journal: Essay Writing In a half page journal entry, please address the following prompt: When it comes to writing essays, how comfortable are you with this task? What do you think you do well? What do you think you need to improve on? What are your goals for developing your writing this year? Please explain your answers. 13 lines minimum; 10 minutes

  4. October 10th: Warm-up • Take out the Rough Draft of your Expository Essay. • Highlight your thesis statement. • Number your Paragraphs (please put the number beside the beginning of each paragraph). • At the end of each paragraph, please write down the number of sentences that can be found in each paragraph. Please circle this number.

  5. October 11th, 2013: Free Write Free Write Friday!! Write a half page journal entry on a topic of your choice. Suggestions for Writing: • How is your day going? • What are you doing this weekend? • How was your week? • What do you want to do when you grow up?

  6. Oct. 16th: Warm-up (4th period only) Please take out a sheet of paper. Please create a list of the five best stories you have ever read. Beside each story, please explain why you thought this story was the best. You will have 8 minutes to complete this task.

  7. October 17th: Journal: The Most Important Part of A Story In a half page journal prompt, please address the following prompt: Please think about your favorite movie, short story, novel or t.v. show. What specifically makes this movie, short story, novel or t.v. show your favorite? Please be specific with your reasoning.

  8. October 18th, 2013: Free Write Free Write Friday!! Write a half page journal entry on a topic of your choice. Suggestions for Writing: • How is your day going? • What are you doing this weekend? • How was your week? • What do you want to do when you grow up?

  9. October 21st, 2013: Warm-up Please take out your new vocabulary for SAT coaching. We will begin promptly.

  10. October 22nd: Journal: Hurting Loved Ones In a half page journal entry, please address the following prompt: Why do we hurt the ones we love? Please be specific with your entry. 10 minutes.

  11. October 24th, 2013: Warm-up Please take out your vocabulary list. We will begin with SAT coaching. Also, please take out your journals for this six weeks. We will begin promptly!!

  12. October 28th: Journal: Unique In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following quote: It's our challenges and obstacles that give us layers of depth and make us interesting. Are they fun when they happen? No. But they are what make us unique. And that's what I know for sure... I think. Ellen DeGeneres Please explain what you think this quote means and how does it apply to you today right now.

  13. October 29th: Warm-up Please sit in your group from yesterday. Please take out your vocabulary and your vocabulary sentence. Please send a representative from your group to put your group’s sentence on the board. You will be given 5 minutes to get the rest of the sentences down from yesterday. We will begin SAT coaching after the 5 minutes is up.

October 30th: Journal: Family In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following quote: My family is my strength and my weakness.AishwaryaRaiBachchan What do you think this quote is specifically saying? How does this quote relate to you? How does this quote relate to the “Scarlet Ibis?”

  15. November 1st: Warm-up Please take out your Unit 4 Vocabulary. We will begin SAT coaching promptly!!! *Make sure you have a Literature book at your desk!*

  16. November 1st : After the test… • Please complete your theme paragraph if you have not already. • Once you have completed that, please take out a Literature Book and turn to pg. 476. • Read the poem. • Answer question #9 in 8 to 10 sentences. • Once you have completed all of this, please come conference with me, so we can get the work that you are missing turned in. Also, this would be a good time to work on correcting low grades.

November 4th: Journal: Ignorance In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following quote: It takes a lot of things to prove you are smart, but only one thing to prove you are ignorant.   18. November 5th: Journal: Knowledge In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following quote: I know that I am intelligent, because I know that I know nothing. Socrates • What is this quote specifically saying? • How does this quote apply to you today right now?

  19. Journal: Future In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following questions: Where do you want to be 5 years from now? Where do you want to be 10 years from now? Are you doing what you need to do now in order to get you where you want to go?

  21. Journal: Nov. 11th: My weekend with compound sentences In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following prompt: Tell me about your weekend…, BUT you must do so by only using compound sentences. You MUST circle your coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS).

  22. November 12th: Journal: My weekend with complex sentences Take out your journal from yesterday and follow these directions: In a half page journal entry, please respond to the following prompt: Tell me about your weekend…, BUT you must do so by only using complex sentences. You MUSTunderline your dependent clauses.
