  2. 15 When one of those who reclined at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “The one who will eat bread in the kingdom of God is blessed!” 16 Then He told him: “A man was giving a large banquet and invited many. Luke 14:15-16

  3. 17 At the time of the banquet, he sent his slave to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’ 18 “But without exception they all began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’ Luke 14:17-18

  4. 19 “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m going to try them out. I ask you to excuse me.’ 20 “And another said, ‘I just got married, and therefore I’m unable to come.’ Luke 14:19-20

  5. 21 “So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’ Luke 14:21

  6. 22 “ ‘Master,’ the slave said, ‘what you ordered has been done, and there’s still room.’ 23 “Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will enjoy my banquet!’ ” Luke 14:22-24

  8. Your invitation to the banquet(v. 16) • Realize you need to come to the banquet. • Isaiah 53:6 We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all. • Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Your invitation to the banquet(v. 16) • Realize you need to come to the banquet. • Understand the consequences of rejecting the invitation • God has provided all things for this banquet • John 3:36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, • Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  11. Your invitation to the banquet(v. 16) • Realize you need to come to the banquet. • Understand the consequences of rejecting the invitation • God has provided all things for this banquet • Accept this invitation • Romans 10:13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  12. The counterfeit disciple doesn’t attend the banquet(vs. 17-20) • The banquet is ready so the host sends word to the invitees. • They begin to make excuses. • Most people who sit in church week after week have accepted the initial invitation.

  13. The counterfeit disciple doesn’t attend the banquet(vs. 17-20) • Many who accept the first invitation reject the second. • We make lame excuses.

  14. The Master’s response to be neglected(vs. 21-24) • He is not pleased—“in anger.” (v. 21) • He will find someone else to accomplish His task. (v. 21) • He will make sure the task is complete. (vs. 22-23) • He will reject the counterfeit disciple. (v. 24)
