CIF21 Task Force Activities 6 • 6 CI Task Forces established in 2008 • Grand Challenges and VO • Software • HPC • Data • Campus Bridging • Learning & Workforce Development • 14 workshops; 5 BOFs; more than 30 phone conferences • 3 more workshops and 1 more BOF before Dec • Over 1230 researchers involved to date • Final reports are being published • Interim results and recommendations being provided

  4. GCC & VO: Overarching Recommendations & Suggestions Permanent programmatic activities in CDS&E should be established within NSF. These activities should range from division- and directorate-level programs for discipline-specific aspects of CS&E, to permanent NSF-wide cross-cutting CS&E programs possibly managed by OCI. Interdisciplinary projects could be co-funded between cross-cutting and relevant disciplinary programs…. • CS&E generally “falls through the cracks” in the current organizational structure of the National Science Foundation • Numerous federally-commissioned reports support the need for cyberinfrastructure for CS&E • There are over 125 programs in CS&E fostered by universities across the country (based on a recent SIAM study). • The CS&E discipline is of fundamental importance in the CF21 initiative: Cyberinfrastructure Framework for 21st Century Science and Engineering
