Homework • Agenda will come home on Mondays with homework for the entire week starting in October • Read 20 minutes every night (Mon.-Thur. recorded in log) • Written response to reading • Practice math facts every night (Mon.-Thurs. recorded in log) • Math concept practice • Word work practice • Website Wednesday • Starts September 15 with reading and math log • Reinforces concepts already taught in the class

  13. Castle Time What is Castle Time? It’s a time for Norton faculty to work collaboratively to differentiate for the learning needs of every student in our grade level. Who will be involved? Classroom teachers, ESL teacher, reading and math specialists and paraprofessionals. What does it look like? For 30 minutes each day, students are grouped in order to address their specific learning needs (enrichment, intervention or both). Groups are flexible and change every few weeks.

Grading and Report Cards 9 week grading periods Grades of 70 and above=passing Daily work= 60% of grade Assessments/Projects= 40% of grade Subjects graded: reading, oral written communication (writing and word work), math, science, social studies Handwriting, conduct, and specials (art, music, and PE) receive letter grades

  17. Parents we need your help! • Complete Volunteer Background Check online-MUST be completed each school year! • Volunteering for your child’s class will be handled by each teacher/classroom coordinator

Notes of Interest • Parent/Teacher Conferences – Beginning in October- watch for an email from your child’s teacher regarding sign up times • $ will cover Scholastic News, Quick Words, and our field trips. • All forms due tomorrow! • Scholastic Book Order – Great Deals! Pick out good fit books. • Communication: e-mail, notes, phone calls, folders • If there is a change in how your child will be going home please send a note or call the office. • **Conference /Planning is 10:30
