POLITICIANS ARE REQUIREDTO BALANCE OPINIONS • Some people oppose any change and will never understand why anyone would chose to be a cyclist • Politicians can become the best cycling advocates • Cyclists need to participate in the discussion • You win some and lose some so you must be patient.

  6. INFLUENCING CHANGE • Position cycling from Recreation to viable Commuting Choice • Talk about it – Participate in Public meetings • Live it • Stay the Course – Be Patient • Plan for the Future

  7. INFLUENCING CHANGE • Elect political advocates • Support political courage • Lead by example Share-the- road and • Obey the “rules of the road”

  8. CREATE LASTING CHANGE • Use POLICY frameworks to ENSURE change is lasting • Embed in Official Plans • Embed in Transportation Master Plans • Create policy to maintain active transportation traffic during construction
