  2. U.S.-Soviet Tensions During WWII • U.S. wasn’t on good terms with Soviet Union before WWII. • Allies during the war to defeat Nazi Germany. • Lots of suspicion and distrust on both sides. • The fear of Soviet’s spreading Communism led to Cold War.

  3. Harsh Reality of an Economic Dream • Millions starved because of collective farms. • People saw only a few benefitted from economy. • Millions were killed for their protests.

  4. Fall of Communism in USSR • Mikhail Gorbachev became president in the 1980s. • Gorbachev allowed more economic and political freedoms. • This led to republics demanding independence, and fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
