  4. This session is not a debate about the value of cloud services, but a discussion around the considerations When you are investigating cloud services.

  5. The Cloud? • Public Cloud • Private Cloud • Hybrid Cloud

  6. Types of Cloud Services • Software as a Service • The utilization of subscription based software typically accessed through a web browser. • Infrastructure as a Service • Compute • Platform as a Service • This services allows customers to develop, build and run applications

  7. Questions • How many of you have nothing in the cloud? • How many are leveraging a virtualization technology?

  8. Considerations • Analysis • Complexity • Risks • Security

  9. Agility • Costs • Increased Service Levels • Staff Alignment Analysis

  10. DR/BC • Federated Services • Getting out of the Cloud • Integration • Technical Complexity

  11. Access • Client Requirements • Communications • Control • Data Management • Events outside of your control RISKS

  12. Access and Identity Management • Administrative • Communications • Data Security Security

  13. Question • WHY WOULD YOU NOT GO TO THE CLOUD??

  14. Thank youQuestions?

  15. Gartner • TechTarget • Forbes • IDC Resources

  16. Identify what workload/s you are looking to migrate to cloud • Analyze the various services taking into account some of the following; • Understand the costs. Be sure to understand all variables that may exist. This is especially important when leveraging Infrastructure as a Service. • Position in the market. Evaluating the risk of the solution either failing or not gaining enough market penetration to exist. • Review Service Level agreements to be sure they meet your needs. • Review Security from both administrative and user aspect. • Understand Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan from a number of stand points to include; loss of data, denial of service attacks, mis-configured containers to name a few. • Communications requirements. Are you leveraging a public internet connection or some private service? • Identity and Access Management. Are you allowing access from anywhere? Are you leveraging 2 factor authentication? Considerations

  17. Evaluate operational controls that may impact your ability to be agile. Example; Do you have direct access to your database instance? Do you have control over the deployment of updates, patches or new versions? • Evaluate where data is stored at rest and does it comply with client requirements. Does the vendor have a solution for cases where data can’t reside in the cloud or in other countries? Especially important when discussing backup and replication of data to alternative data centers. • Evaluate the impact on staff expertise and man power. • Have a clear path to exit relationship and retrieve your data. • Understand your RISK TOLERANCE. Considerations
