How Tornadoes Are Started • Most of the tornadoes are formed by storms. • You need warm moist air like from the Gulf of Mexico. • And cool dry air from Canada. • When the 2 air masses meet together they create a instability of a tornado in the atmosphere. • http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-tornado.htm

What Are Tornadoes • A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. • Tornados can get up to the wind speeds of 300miles per hour. • Damage paths can be up to 50 miles long. • Tornadoes can uproot trees, destroy buildings , and hurl vehicles. • In an average year there is about 1000 tornados.

  6. Hurricane Katrina • Occurred in 2005 August 29 at 8:00 AM. • In Florida. • Destroyed thousands of houses. • Killed thousands of people.
