  5. WHO IS THE WORLD BANK? • THE WB IS AN INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION LOCATED IN WASHINGTON, DC. • WE ARE OWNED BY 186 MEMBER COUNTRIES • THE WB’s CHALLENGE IS TO REDUCE GLOBAL POVERTY.

  6. HOW IS THE WORLD BANK MADE UP? THREE UNIQUE INSTITUTIONS: THE INTERNATIONAL BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT (IBRD). THE IBRD FOCUSES ON MIDDLE INCOME AND CREDITWORTHY POOR COUNTRIES. INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (IDA). IAD FOCUSES ON THE POOREST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION (IFC). IFC PROVIDES INVESTMENT AND ADVISORY SERVICES TO BUILD THE PRIVATE SECTOR IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

  12. THE WORLD BANK HOUSEHOLD SHIPPING AND STORAGE PROGRAM VOLUMES SHIPPING IN 2008 WE SHIPPED 3.3 MILLION LBS TOTAL ANNUAL COST WAS $10 MILLION STORAGE IN 2008 WE KEPT AN AVERAGE OF 1.7 MILLION LBS IN PERMANENT STORAGE TOTAL ANNUAL COST $1.1 MILLION

  14. THE WORLD BANK HOUSEHOLD SHIPPING AND STORAGE PROGRAM DOOR TO DOOR RATES INCLUDE: PACKING AND LOADING INLAND TRANSPORTATION FROM/TO PORTS TERMINAL HANDLING CHARGES OCEAN, AIR FREIGHT NORMAL CUSTOMS CLEARANCE FORWARDING FEES UNLOADING, UNPACKING DEBRIS REMOVAL

  15. THE WORLD BANK HOUSEHOLD SHIPPING AND STORAGE PROGRAM NON DOOR-TO-DOOR SHIPMENTS SHIPMENTS THAT FALL OUTSIDE THE DOOR-TO-DOOR CONTRACT LOCATIONS REQUIRE THE CONTRACTOR TO SEEK COMPETITIVE BIDS FOR THE ORIGIN OR DESTINATION SERVICES. A MINIMUM OF TWO BIDS PER SHIPMENT IS REQUIRED.

IDB Basic Facts • Membership: • 48 countries represented by a Board of Executive Directors • Approved lending and grants over the past 12 months: • $10 billion with aportfolio of projects under consideration that numbers more than 600 • Employees: • About 2,000 worldwide • Offices: • Headquarters in Washington, DC, with country offices in 26 borrowing countries, plus a regional office in Tokyo and another in Paris. • Clients: • Central governments, provinces, municipalities, private firms and non-governmental organizations.

The Bank provides more financing to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other government-owned regional financial institution. • A big debt-cancellation program for its five poorest members (Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua) is financed entirely by the Bank • Countries that receive IDB financing also hold a majority of its shares • The IDB was established in 1959 and turned 50 in 2009

HR - Employment or Benefits Section The HR Department authorizes the staff member with these benefits: • 15,000 lbs not to exceed 1x40’ container • 1 automobile • Full replacement insurance up to $130,000 on household goods and $50,000 for the automobile • 60 days of storage in transit • $750 to move a professional library • No air shipments allowed • No permanent storage allowed HR then refers them to the Mobility Coordinator

New position created to assist staff member in negotiating the maze of relocation – a “one stop shop” • Household goods moving • Payroll and tax implications • Cultural Training • Housing Consultation • Security Briefing • School / Career Assistance • Settling In Services • Visa / Immigration Issues Mobility Coordinator

Monitoring of Individual Shipments • On-line contact with moving company for status • Continual monitoring door to door • Constant contact with moving company and mobility coordinator • Insurance Coverage • Arranges for insurance of the staff member's household effects and automobile through a contracted insurance company up to the limits authorized by the Bank. • The Bank is self-insured and uses the insurance company only to administer claims. Once authorized by the Shipping Section, the Bank's contracted moving company and their network of overseas agents provide officially authorized door-to-door shipping services for household effects and automobiles: • Pre-move survey at the staff member's residence • Export packing into cartons and padding of furniture (no liftvans) • Transportation to the port of exit • Ocean freight to destination • Normal customs clearance • Delivery to residence at destination • Complete unpacking • Storage-in-transit (when required) • Arrangement of destination services Contracted Moving Company

Contract must be re-bid every five years • Contract is valid for three years with additional two-year extension • Contractor must provide on-site personnel • Contractor must provide or sub-contract relocation services • Service Level Agreement must be included as part of contract Contract Procedures

Performance Measures • Performance Measurement is based on: • Client Satisfaction (based on client survey, feedback received during move) • Bank Satisfaction (vendor’s ability to handle shipments independently, overall quality, pro-active approach, ability to solve problems without Bank intervention) • Overall Door-to-Door Service (accuracy of estimates, adherence to schedules, timely management of shipment, adherence to contract terms and timetables, incidence of claims) • Administrative Handling (competitive rates, management of agent relations, correct and timely invoicing)

  32. Presidential Mandate to reduce carbon footprint of the Bank • Corporate Social Responsibility Team appointed in 2007 • All paper invoices required from vendors • Working toward paperless files • Requirement for online access to reports / status of shipments Greening of the IDB
