According to World Health Organization estimates, 65 million people have moderate to severe COPD. More than 3 million people died of COPD in 2005 corresponding to 5% of all deaths globally and it is estimated to be the third leading cause of death by 2030. Jindal in 1993 reported that the prevalence was 6.2% in men and 3.9% in women in rural area, and 4.2% and 1.6%, respectively in urban area.
