  3. Geography • Cuba comprises the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos.

  4. Government • Cuba is one of four remaining socialist states • No political parties in Cuba are allowed to campaign • Public elections are not held in Cuba, but the election of Cuba’s dictator is one of the responsibilities of the 609 members of the National Assembly of People’s Power

  5. Currency • Cuba’s currency is the Cuban Peso • These are colored paper slips, unlike US dollars. • 1 US dollar = 26.5 CUP

Food • fusion of native Taino food, Spanish, African, and Caribbean cuisine • Cuba Sandwich (mixto) • built on a base of lightly buttered Cuban bread and contains sliced roast pork, serranoham, swisscheese, dill pickles, and yellow mustard • Rice and beans are two ingredients found in many Cuban dishes
