Corporate Social Responsibility ” Social responsibility of an organisation is the responsibility for the impact of its decisions and activities on society and the environment through transparent and ethical behaviour that: - contributes to sustainable development - takes into account expectations of stakeholders - is in compliance with applicable law and norms - is integrated throughout the organisation” Definition from the new ISO 26000 standard, published in 2010
Sounds complicated – but it is simple! 1) The company perspective Translates into: • A respectful HR policy and a decent working environment • A clear and responsible environmental policy • Product safety • Honesty and integrity in businesstransactions • Commitment to and involvement in the local community • Risk management to minimise harmful impact on society
Basic UN-agreements with relevance for CSR 2) The policy perspective: Expectations from the UN:
CSR sensitivity: 1)The closer to consumers -, or/and 2) The more dangerous the business activity - - the more CSR- sensitive the product/company will/should be
