  3. What Is Anger • Completely normal, usually healthy emotion ( MentalHealthFoundation, n.d.) • But; when it gets out of control • It may lead to problems

  4. What Is Anger • Basic human emotion • Triggered by an emotional hurt • Usually experienced as an unpleasant feeling( MentalHealthFoundation, n.d.)

  5. What Causes Anger • External or internal events • Specific person • Worrying about your personal problems • Memories of traumatic events (Cavell, & Malcolm, 2007)

  6. How Does the Body React to Anger • Adrenaline and other chemicals pour into the bloodstream • The heart pumps faster • Blood pressure rises • Bloodflow quickens • Muscle tense ( MentalHealthFoundation, n.d.)

  7. Danger! Failing to deal with your anger may lead to: • Health Problems • Tension • Accidents • Interpersonal Problems ( MentalHealthFoundation, n.d.)

  8. Anger • It is important to understand anger because; • It can be helpful • Or • It can be harmful

  9. How Does Anger Affect Relationships • Result in domestic violence • Others get their feelings hurt • Other people become defiant, become indifferent, avoid you, or lose respect for the angry person (AmericanPsychologicalAssociation, 2013)

  10. Anger Management • Anger Management does not involve getting rid of all anger, but using anger to enhance your life. We can look at the purposes of anger in both a positive and negative light (Helpguide, n.d.)

  11. Anger Management The positive aspects of anger are that; • Increased energy • Able to communicate your feelings • Able to solve your problems • Can take charge of the situation

  12. Anger Management The negative aspects of anger are that; • Disruption of your thinking • Unnecessarily defend yourself • Become aggressive • Become known as an angry person

  13. Importance of Anger Management Goal of Anger Management • Reduce both your emotional and the physiological arousal which anger causes (Tafrate, & Kassinove, 2002)
