Historical Significance The Foundation of the Ranger Program - Ranger training at Ft Benning SEP 1950 during the Korean War • In OCT 1951 the Commandant of the US Army Infantry School established the Ranger Department and extended Ranger training to all combat units in the Army - Ranger Class for individual candidates graduated on 01 MAR 1952. • On 01 NOV 1987, the Ranger Dept Re-organized into the Ranger Training Brigade, and established three Ranger Training Battalions (sole mission to make my life miserable) Ranger training remains relevant and valuable to our formations

Ranger Training Brigade Mission Conduct Ranger Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader Courses to further develop the combat armsskills of Officer and Enlisted volunteers eligible for assignment to units whose primary mission is to engage in the close-combat, direct firebattle with the enemy. Average energy expenditure for Ranger School per day is 3600-4800 calories Average energy expenditure in Mountain training 4600-6000 calories per day 2 MREs per day will give you around 2200 calories. There is 3500 calories in 1lb. If your energy expenditure was 4500 calories a day you would lose 1lb every 2 days if you were consuming 2 MREs per day.   16. Nutritional Threat • Research shows 50% increase in bodyfat in the months following Ranger School. • Caused by overeating and “binge eating” • Rangers sometimes justify overeating by thinking they just experienced starvation. Follow Me Rangers Lead the Way!

Nutritional Plan • 2 MREs provide 2400-2600 calories, so Ranger School is not starvation but rather food restriction. • Allow yourself 2 weeks(maximum) post Ranger School to indulge and eat what you want. • After the 2 week time frame start setting eating a balanced diet without all the junk/fast food. Nutritional PlanContinued • Fill up on fruit and vegetables when you during and in between meals • Avoid drinking your calories; avoid regular soda and drinking excess juice (eat the fruit), and gatorade (if PT is longer than 1 hour, OK to consume) • Insulin sensitivity • Body’s regulators out of whack

Further Recommendations • Schedule a Body Composition with your Medical Section as soon as you can post Graduation. • Repeat test once per month for the next 6 months to stay on track. • Ease back into PT schedule following a RAW “transition phase” scheduling for guidance.
