Are the people aware of stem cell preservation

Several researchers are currently conducting trials on the utility of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC) in understanding the origins of disease and also for formulating stem cell-based treatments.

  1. Are the People Aware of Preserving Stem Cells?

  2. Are the people aware of Preserving Stem Cells? • As the newborn is delivered and the umbilical cord is split, blood from the cord segment still attached to the placenta can be collected. • Stem cells are known as umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cells in the remaining segment of the umbilical cord and placenta.

  3. Are the people aware of Preserving Stem Cells? • This blood that has been treated as medical waste for centuries and that is of no use to the mother or the baby is a rich source of stem cells. • The stem cells of UCB are unique and have many promising uses in the future.

  4. UCB can be banked in two ways: • Private UCB banks, where a newborn's UCB is stored at some cost. These UCBs can only be used by the child or his or her family when a need arises; • Public UCB banks are similar to blood banks. Any pregnant woman can register to donate UCB free of charge at the time of childbirth, and anyone in need can use it at some cost.

  5. Private UCB banking • supported only in certain cases, such as when newborn parents are known to carry mutations associated with blood, immune system, or inborn metabolism errors. • Private banking is also indicated as an applicant for UCB stem cell transplantation when there is an older affected sibling with one of these diseases.

  6. Public UCB banking • Priority areas for research were identified in various points through in-depth discussion for basic and applied research on specific diseases, and various programs on embryonic and adult stem cells were supported. • In order to understand exactly how stem cells, work and how their potential can be exploited for the treatment of different diseases, thorough research is needed.

  7. stem cell preservation in India • In current stem cell research, however, there are many challenges, such as the lack of adequate expertise in human resources; very few indigenous hESC lines are being generated; the interdisciplinary structure is yet to be created; regulatory mechanisms are still evolving, etc. • Despite these challenges, there is an enhanced awareness among the scientists and clinicians about stem cell preservation in India and the process has gained momentum.
