  1. Trial report 15_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-BF-RD-2020-FRA-EN-V1 Fattening steers Effect of OILIS supply during the 2nd part of the fattening period on the zootechnical performances of Limousin fattening bulls Type of trial: R&D trial – ADM station Location: France Date: 2020 Introduction This trial was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of OILIS as growth factor on fattening bulls. To reduce the supplementation cost over the whole fattening period (around 180 days), OILIS was given only during the last 90 days of fattening. Materials and methods Animals: Total of 165 Limousin bulls (initial average age = 492 days) Housing: During the first 6 weeks, animals were housed in collective pens (up to 33 animals per pen) in a specific adaptation building. From the7th week after arrival, they were transferred in the fattening building, and housed in collective pens of 11 animals. All the pens are straw bedded. Period: During the last 90 days of fattening. Diets: During the 3 first months, all the animals received the same standard feeding program (2/3 ground corn, 1/3 nitrogen supplement). 3 diets were distributed, from the4th month of fattening : A B C Negative Control OILIS 1 OILIS 2 Standard feed A + OILIS SD 1 kg/T A + OILIS SD 2 kg/T Measures: • Zootechnical results : Average intake, ADG before the experimental period, ADG after the experimental period • Carcass weight and EUROP classification Date: 19 Nov. 2021- Page: 1/4

  2. Trial report 15_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-BF-RD-2020-FRA-EN-V1 Results •Average intake: ▪ was similar, around 10.8 kg/animal/day. The average intake for the 3 groups •Average Daily Gain: ▪ ADG was numerically higher for the supplemented groups by considering the whole trial period o+ 61 g/day for OILIS 1 & + 93 g/day for OILIS 2 vs the control, p‐value = 0.160 ▪ The difference tended to be relevant (p<0.10) by considering only the 45 last days o+ 114 g/day for OILIS 1 & + 142 g/day and for OILIS 2 vs the control. 3. Trial report 15_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-BF-RD-2020-FRA-EN-V1 •Carcass weight & FCR : ▪ This improvement in growth was also visible on the carcass weight (+ 6 kg for OILIS 1 and + 8 kg for OILIS 2 vs the control group, p‐value < 0.05) ▪ We also observed a better FCR for OILIS group : o6.0 for the control group vs 5.8 for OILIS 1 vs 5.6 for OILIS 2 •Carcass classification (EUROP score) Control OILIS 1 OILIS 2 ▪ No statistically significant effect of the diet was observed on the carcass classification (EUROP score). ▪ However, the group receiving OILIS 2 had a numerically higher % of animals scored E‐ (79%, 59% for the control group, 63% for the OILIS 1), and a lower % of animals classified U= (2%, 6% for the control group). 4. Trial report 15_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-BF-RD-2020-FRA-EN-V1 •Return On Investment (ROI): Negative Control OILIS 1 OILIS 2 Zootechnical data Initial weight - Standardized (kg) 493 493 493 ADG (g/day) 1811 1872 1904 Supplementation duration (days) 87 87 87 Final weight (kg) 651 656 659 Carcass yield (%) 0.613 0.616 0.618 Carcass weight - Standardized 399 404 407 Economic data Carcass valorization (€/ kg carcass) 3.8 3.8 3.8 Carcass price (€) 1515 1535 1547 Supplementation cost (€/day/bull) * - 0.043 0.087 Total supplementation cost (€) - 3.78 7.56 - Net benefits (€/bull) 16 24 - ROI 5.2 4.1 * considered OILIS SD cost at 3950 €/T (price sold to feed millers) Conclusion This study aimed to evaluate the effect of OILIS on the performances of fattening steers (without any specific coccidiosis or cryptosporidiosis challenge). OILIS allowed to improve the Average Daily Gain of the animals during the experimental period +61 g/day for the group supplemented with 1 kg/T of OILIS SD and +93 g/day for the one supplemented with 2 kg/t of OILIS SD. A better carcass weight was also observed for both OILIS groups in comparison with the control : + 6 kg for the group supplemented with OILIS SD at 1 kg/T and +7.7 kg for the group supplemented with OILIS SD at 2 kg/T. No significant difference was observed on the carcass classification (EUROP score). Finally, OILIS also allow to improve the FCR of the animals 5.8 for the group with OILIS SD 1kg/T and 5.6 for the group with OILIS SD at 2kg/T VS 6.0 for the control. The ROI was largely positive for the 2 supplementation dosages, a little bit higher for the low dose (5.2, vs 4.2 for the high dose). Even if the supplementation would be done over the whole fattening period (180 days, instead of only 90 days), as it is sometimes not possible in commercial farms to distribute 2 different diets, if we suppose the same effect of final carcass weight, the ROI would still be positive (2.5 for the low dosage, 2 for the high dosage).
