How to communicate orally? • Structure your presentation • Adapt your presentation to your audience • Study other speakers to improve • Visit the presentation room beforehand • Project your voice • Speak clearly • Be confident • Stay on topic • Summarize main points at the end • Respond effectively to non-verbal cues

  5. Study Other Speaker to Improve • Knowing every element isn’t sufficent • Learn from looking at influential speakers • PRACTICE!!

  6. Visit the Presentation Room Beforehand • Get comfortable with the room • Know how to use the equipment • Be aware of the acoustics

  7. Project your voice • Speak loud • Ensure entire audience can hear you • Enunciate consonants • Use notes to a minimal amount • Emphasize points with change of pitch • Change rhythm not to sound monotonic

  8. Speak Clearly • Use a clear tone • Stay at a constant pace • Use proper/appropriate language • Don’t mumble • Don’t chew gum • Don’t sound memorized

  9. Be confident • Show enthusiasm • Eye contact • Keep a straight posture • Be comfortable with audience • Enchant the audience

  10. Staying on topic, • Emphasizes what the speaker is communicating • Eases the understanding for the audience • Makes the presentation straightforward

  11. At the end of the presentation, • Summarize the key points • Underline your main focus • Clarify any misinterpretations

  12. Respond effectively to non-verbal cues • Be aware of non-verbal cues • Gestures can alter communication • Adjust yourself problems with those cues

  13. Conclusion • Oral communication reduces misinterpretation • It is an effective communication tool • It also offers immediate feedback • Practice is essential
