  3. GROUP DISCUSSION:THINK, PAIR, SHARE • Define Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. • Discuss your opinions with your group members

DEFINITIONS • Stress: mental, emotional, or physical strain caused by; anxiety, worry, concern • Trauma: an extremely distressing experience that causes severe emotional shock and may have long-lasting psychological effects • PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder that's triggered by a traumatic event. You can develop PTSD when you experience or witness an event that causes intense fear, helplessness or horror.

  5. PTSD CAUSES • Discuss for a moment with your group the causes. • Share with the class what your GROUP feels are the causes for PTSD.

  6. PPA FORMAT & EVALUATION • Evaluate the current policy on treatments for PTSD using the PPA format • Using the following worksheet determine if the current policy is effective and what can we do to improve this policy. • Policy worksheet #4 (Examining existing public policy)

  7. WHAT CAN BE DONE? • Veterans can attend therapy sessions at the VA hospital • Check out work/school/community therapeutic resources • Take stress management classes • Certain drugs/medicines can help elevate some symptoms of the disorder

  8. NEW POLICY CREATION • From your review of the existing policy create a new policy, using the following worksheet. • WORK SHEET #6 (Selecting the best public policy solution)

  9. ADVOCACY CHAMPAIGN • Create a poster campaign that tells others what the new policy is going to be. • Your poster should be INFORMATIVE, as well as CREATIVE! • Follow the directions & you will be graded using a standard poster rubrics
