The Response • Joint Guidance Note on Expatriate Spouse Employment – launched July 2004 calls for • UN Staff Mobility Website • UN Global Expatriate Spouse Association (GESA) • UN Local Expatriate Spouse Association (LESA) • Main focus on harmonising spouse employment policies, strengthening the sustainability of LESAs and improving services for career development

  7. Role of the UN/GESA • Helps set up and coordinate work of LESAs • Maintains and upgrades global website • Implements communications strategy • Focal point between LESAs and UN agencies

  8. Role of the UN/LESA • Supports the employment and career interests of spouses locally and addresses issues of work permits • Helps families settle into their new duty station • Produces and updates country-specific material for publication on the website

Career Development • Access to training courses • UN wide • UN specific • Country or LESA specific • Access to opportunities to gain work experience • Information about on-line courses and degree programmes • Information about (local) consultancies and short assignments • Consulting firm for UN spouses/partners
